HISTORY OF KVS
The History of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) :-
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has a rich history, marked by its commitment to providing quality education to the children of central government employees across India. Over the years, KVS has grown into a vast network of schools, offering a consistent and high-standard education.
Origin-
The journey of KVS began in 1962 when the Government of India approved a scheme to establish schools for the children of central government employees who were frequently transferred. These schools were initially called "Central Schools," aiming to provide a stable and consistent education for these children, irrespective of where their parents were posted.
Establishment-
The first Kendriya Vidyalaya was established in 1964 in Pattom, Kerala. This marked the beginning of a network of schools that would eventually span the entire country, providing students with an excellent education and a nurturing environment.
Registration-
In 1965, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was formally registered as a society. This registration allowed KVS to operate with a clear organizational structure and governance, ensuring that all schools under its umbrella adhered to the same high standards of education and administration.
Expansion-
The number of Kendriya Vidyalayas has steadily increased over the years. As of June 30, 2021, there were 1,248 schools in India and 3 abroad. This expansion reflects the growing demand for quality education and the success of the KVS model in meeting the educational needs of students across the country and beyond.
Management-
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) manages Kendriya Vidyalayas. The current KVS office is led by Ms. Nidhi Pandey as Commissioner and Dharmendra Pradhan as Chairman. Their leadership ensures that KVS continues to evolve and adapt to the changing educational landscape while maintaining its core values.
Curriculum-
KVS schools follow the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus and use textbooks from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). This standardized curriculum ensures that students receive a comprehensive and uniform education, preparing them well for higher education and future careers.
Motto-
The motto of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is "The End of Education is Character." This reflects the KVS commitment to not only imparting academic knowledge but also fostering moral and ethical values among students, shaping them into responsible and well-rounded individuals.
Kendriya Vidyalayas Outside India-
Kendriya Vidyalayas are not confined to India alone. There are three KVS schools located outside the country, in Kathmandu, Moscow, and Tehran. These schools are situated inside embassies in these countries, and their expenditures are borne by the Ministry of External Affairs. This international presence allows KVS to serve Indian children living abroad, ensuring they receive the same quality education as their counterparts in India.
